This course is designed to provide the students with a fundamentaltechnical and practical background in data communications withthe context of network technologies. Topics include fundamentalconcepts of data communications; data transfer modes; the OSImodel; transmission mediums and the physical layers; modemsand modem standards; local area networks (LANs) and widearea networks (WANs); communications standards includingcommunications codes, application support protocols, and networkarchitecture; and intranet/Internet routers.
