Description
The English reading/ writing 005 is a hybrid course that focuses onstudents diagnosed as requiring first level English reading and writingcompetencies. This course concentrates on developing students'critical reading, writing and analytical thinking skills; the programof study focuses on assisting students in developing their abilityto read various topical texts and determine main idea, supportingdetails, making inferences and drawing conclusions and transferringthese skills to summarizing and analyzing readings and criticallyresponding to them in short essays. Types of essays studied inthis course include personal narratives, descriptive, expository andpersuasive essays. Upon successful completion of this coursestudents are expected to demonstrate competency in reading andfacility in the use of the written English language, emphasizingeloquence, clarity, a diverse vocabulary, sentence variety, andsatisfactory grammar and mechanics.
