Introduction to Probability and Statistics

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to statistical techniques commonly used in scientific research and business operations. The course will provide a strong foundation of statistical concepts for science and business majors. Topics include tabulation and presentation of data; numerical descriptions by measures of central tendency, measures of variability and measures of position; elementary probability theory leading to probability distributions and applications in statistics; binomial and normal distribution with applications to sampling theory and statistical inference such as estimation and test of hypotheses based on small and large samples; bivariate data and correlation analysis; contingency tables and tests based on chi-square distribution; and introduction to analysis of variance.
