Description
This course is designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills to care for individuals with alterations in bio-psychosocial functioning. It focuses on specific problems that occur along the health-illness continuum and the impact these alterations have on the individual, family and society. Within the framework of the nursing process, students are exposed to role playing, assisted to develop therapeutic communication skills and to recognize how persons of different cultures react to alterations in mental health. Students are assisted to enhance the use of self in client interactions. Clinical experiences are provided in acute or subacute care settings and selected community mental health centers.
