The discipline of Sociology utilizes global perspective to understand long term large scale processes of social transformation. One of these processes is the large scale migration of people from rural to urban communities, particularly in the nineteenth century. As such, the principal subject matter of this course is the study of urbanization and the major problems associated with the rise and dominance of the city.
