Description

This course will explore intergenerational issues in social workwhich impact on the elderly and their families and/or caregivers.Specifically, this course will focus on working with elders and theirsupport network, e.g., spouses, partners, family members andcaregivers. The course examines the biological, psychological andsocial effects of aging and provides the student with approachesto affective assessment and intervention strategies. Social workpractice and treatment issues are identified to help students developassessment and treatment skills for work with older adults and theirfamilies. Concrete service, delivery and policy implementation areaddresses in addition to individual, small group and family treatmenttechniques. The student is encouraged to explore and reflect on hisor her attitudes, experiences and behaviors related to the elderly ona personal and professional basis. Pre-requisites: HSC 302
