Description
This lecture course investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate animal development. Topics will include fertilization, cleavage, gastrulation, neutralization, axis specification, organogenesis, morphogens, and stem cells. This course will integrate organismal, cellular, genetic and molecular approaches to the study of animal development. We will examine a diversity of mechanisms, ranging from those that establish pattern formation in the unfertilized egg to those governing morphogenesis of organ systems. Evolution of developmental mechanisms will also be discussed.
