Description
This course is designed to introduce students to the markets, institutions, and economic forces that shape the management decisions of professional sports organizations. An introduction to the managerial approaches and systems that underline the management of sports organizations, sports events, athletes, and sports-related products/services. Within the context of the current and future sports business landscapes, the course examines management topics such as: (1) the economic analysis of league structure, team decision making and management; (2) sports event planning; (3) spectator safety; (4) facilities management; (5) labor-relations, incentive structures, stadium financing and (6) merchandise management; and (7) sales management. The impact of sports-related technologies and analytics on sports management systems and decision making are included to give students competitive advantage for careers and entrepreneurial opportunities in the sports industry.
