Description

W.E.B. Du Bois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in 1868 and was the African American student awarded a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1895. He was a scholar, activist, and equal rights advocate who committed his life to advancing African Americans’ struggles against white supremacy and legalized terrorism in the forms of terror of Jim Crow laws. As such, this course foci are Du Bois’s copious contributions to Americans understanding of the African American experiences by providing students opportunities to undertake critical analyses of Du Bois’s treatments of African Americans in his The Philadelphia Negro: A Social Study, The Soul of Black Folks, and Black Reconstruction.
